Masonry Wall Design Problem 1 - Design a reinforced concrete masonry wall for maximum moment load:
|
Design a fully grouted cantilever concrete masonry retaining wall for a maximum design moment of 12,960 in-lb/ft.
The wall is 6 ft high. Use 8 in units with f'm = 1500 psi and fy steel = 40 ksi. |
1. From the masonry submenu open the flexure in reinforced wall calculation, FlexRein.aspx. Input the "Title" of the calculation, the "Designer/Checker" information and the variables.
Next open the reference "Masonry Design Tables" and determine the allowable steel tensile stress Fs. Assume d = 4.74 inches. Enter the remaining variables and click on the "Calculate" button. Read the results.
The estimated area of steel, As = 0.152 sq in/ft.

|
2.
From the reference "Masonry Design Tables", use No. 6 rebar spaced at 32 inches, with area 0.166 sqin/ft . Click on the "Calculate" button and read the results.
The maximum resistant moment of wall is 14,210.595 in-lb/ft which is greater than 12,960 in-lb/ft, so the design is adequate.

3. Summary
|
Use a fully grouted concrete masonry wall with No. 6 rebar spaced at 32 inches.
